The ‘Building U’ (formerly the dining hall) worksite was opened in 1911 and is a central part of the former Swiss Federal Railways SBB main workshop under the protection of the Canton. The original uses of the dining room on the mezzanine ground floor, the bathing establishment in the basement and the apartments in the head building still characterise the spatial structure today. A comprehensive renovation, excluding the first floor of the longitudinal building (SBB intervention) is being carried out.
